More New Yorkers are taking up cycling as a means of transportation. Safe Streets Fund, through campaigns like Bike Smart, works with community groups and business associations to spread the word about safe cycling.
Wearing a properly fitted bicycle helmet reduces the risk of serious head injuries by 80%. Thanks to generous donations from partners like Bike New York, the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and Target, the Safe Streets Fund raises awareness of the importance of wearing helmets and provides free helmets and fittings at events throughout the five boroughs.
This year we celebrated the fitting and distribution of our 50,000th helmet.
